PLASTICS

KNOW | SAY |
ZYL
|
• Most common, frames cut from all colors, patterns, textures of sheet stock
• Softens over time, readjustment needed, too much heat can melt, bubble or burn the frame • Can become dry or brittle with age, check before adjusting • Acetone will dissolve the frame • Heat to 120°C to adjust • Easy to insert lenses and adjust • Can stretch with heat or shrink with cooling (careful hidden hinge may loosen if heated too hot) |
• Frames maintain their high luster
• Can be laminated for great effects • Works wonderfully for those big temples with logos and brand emblems |
CELLULOSE
PROPIONATE |
• Injection molded
• Lightweight, strong and flexible, color is added by an over-coating • Excess heat bubbles the frame, beads will pock the surface • NO acetone or alcohol |
• This is one of the most comfortable and lightweight
materials • Large sizes retain their stability, even as wrap frames • Less sensitive to warm weather and will hold their adjustment |
GRILAMID | • Thermoplastic molded frame, clear and transparent
• Lightweight, 20% lighter than zyl • Does not dry out • Cold glazing for thin lenses, slight heat for high powers, <50°C |
• This frame material is highly durable and resistant
to aging • Flexible even in thin designs • Hypoallergenic • Created in a wide variety of color combinations |
HYTREL | • Exceptionally tough and resilient
• Resistant to creep, impact and flex fatigue |
• These frames are good in a wide range of temperatures maintaining flexibility and lens retention |
TROGAMID | • Highly resistant to chemicals and UV
• Excellent abrasion and scratch resistance |
• Great under the most extreme conditions
• Maintains its good looks for the life of the eyewear |
