PITTSBURGH--PPG Industries’ International Polarizer unit has ventured into the field of optometric testing equipment with the introduction of its polarized film for Vectograph slides. The film is being used by ophthalmic companies that specialize in the printing of Vectographs, which help optometrists gauge depth perception in patients.

Developed through a proprietary adhesion process, the unstained Vectograph film from International Polarizer serves as the backdrop for a photographic image that, when added to both sides of the film, creates a polarized picture. While the picture appears fuzzy under normal conditions, when viewed through polarized lenses it becomes three-dimensional, allowing the examiner to evaluate gross and fine depth perception in patients of all ages, and identify problems that can impact children’s vision, such as amblyopia and strabismus. The most recognizable example of this type of Stereo Depth Perception Testing is the “Stereo Fly.”

In addition to providing film for Vectograph Slides, International Polarizer makes sunglass polarizers, precision curved wavers, technical polarizers, wave retarders, circular polarizers and 3-D polarizers.
