Zieman, Musslewhite Join PixelOptics

ROANOKE, Va.—PixelOptics has added two new members to its management team. Peter Zieman, former director of retail operations and laboratory services for Essilor of America, has been appointed director of European sales. Zieman is responsible for developing a sales and distribution infrastructure to support and execute the introduction of PixelOptics’ products across Europe.
Born in England, Zieman started his optical career in 1980 as a board member of Henley Optical Group, a 120-store optical retail chain based in the northwest of England. In 1989, he became the UK services director for Dollond & Atchison Opticians in Birmingham, England, operating as board director and providing service-related support to the 850-store optical chain including buying, manufacturing, logistics, warehousing and forecasting. Zeiman joined Essilor in 1997, where he was responsible for business unit sales to key retail optical suppliers throughout the U.S.
Zieman will be based in PixelOptics’ offices in England, where he will build the sales teams for launching PixelOptics products, including the recently launched atLast! Enhanced Multifocal lens, to the European optical market.

Musslewhite has worked in the eyecare industry since 1993, holding various positions with Essilor of America including sales consultant, manager of eyecare professional marketing, and product manager of AR coatings. As marketing director for Hoya, he directed the launch of key products and developed and managed integrated marketing plans designed to increase market share.

David Ray Joins KBco as VP Sales; Chris Bailey Is Promoted

Ray joins KBco from Essilor where he was director of retail sales, working with key accounts such as Costco, Wal-Mart and ECCA for the past four years. Prior to that, he had extensive experience in identifying and developing sales and new growth opportunities in a variety of industries.

In his new role, Bailey will be responsible for determining new product opportunities and seeing them through all phases of a product’s life cycle including the design, tooling and manufacturing processes. Once products are ready to be launched, he will be responsible for developing comprehensive marketing plans and programs.
Viva International Appoints Fatula to Corporate Accounts Manager

A 38-year optical industry veteran, Fatula has been involved in sales management roles for Liberty Optical and Kenmark Optical. Most recently he served as vice president of sales at Concepts & Optics. He is a licensed optician, an OLA certified lab technician and an ABO certified speaker for The Vision Council.
In his new position, Fatula will manage Viva’s selected high-level corporate accounts and mid-tier chains, focusing on the needs of these specialized accounts. Working alongside business development, he will help customize programs and strengthen the company’s business relationships.
Vistakon Names Achenbach Senior Director, Professional/Medical Affairs, for Professional Development Group
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Peg Achenbach, OD, recently joined the Johnson & Johnson Vision Care’s (NYSE: JNJ) Vistakon professional development group as senior director, professional and medical affairs. In this role, Achenbach will lead the company’s medical affairs group and also will direct the team at The Vision Care Institute, a Johnson & Johnson company.
Prior to joining Vistakon, Achenbach was vice president of medical Operations for SDR Pharmaceuticals in Andover, N.J., where she spearheaded research and product development in oncology, HIV, TB, antimicrobial agents, and dermatology, according to a Vistakon announcement. Following her graduation from Pacific University College of Optometry, Achenbach directed the testing and development of new contact lens solutions and materials while managing clinical research at Bausch & Lomb. She also founded an optometric practice specializing in the fitting of contacts, ocular disease and low vision.
B&L VP Joseph Barr, OD, Gets EFCLIN Contact Lens Award
ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Joseph Barr, OD, Bausch & Lomb’s vice president, global clinical and medical affairs and professional services, vision care, has been named 2008 recipient of the EFCLIN (European Federation of the Contact Lens Industry) Award for his contributions to the contact lens industry.
EFCLIN, whose membership includes international contact lens manufacturers and suppliers, champions education and maintenance of the highest level of professional services within the contact lens industry, according to B&L. Each year EFCLIN recognizes an individual whose contributions have made a lasting and positive effect on the CL industry; Barr was chosen specifically for his continued commitment to education, and for his many professional publications and lectures by which he has advanced the fitting of contact lenses, a B&L statement said.
Before joining B&L in July 2007 Barr was the associate dean for clinical services and professional program at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He has written more than 50 peer-reviewed publications related to contact lenses and the cornea, and is a past chairman of the American Academy of Optometry’s section on cornea and contact lenses.
