Release Date: June 9, 2022
Expiration Date: March 25, 2023
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course you should understand:
- Know the optical performance features and benefits of various lens
- Know the history behind the development of MR-6 lens material
- Know the MR material lens benefits for the patient
Course Description
Although we will address each property individually, a lens material must be evaluated for its combined properties and effect on vision, comfort (weight), cosmetics (thinness and magnification). We are familiar with the many lens manufacturers in the optical industry, such as ZEISS, Younger, Essilor, Signet, Shamir, and HOYA, to name a few. But we are less aware of the chemical companies that produce the raw materials for coatings, lens monomers, photochromic dyes, or specific wavelength control for lenses. It is the research and development of unsung optical heroes such as Mitsui Chemical that advances lenses, dyes, and coating molecular science so that lens manufacturers can produce and ECPs can offer their patients thinner, lighter, stronger lenses and coatings. This course reviews the MR series of high index lens materials and how these material benefits have elevated the high-index material option to the material of choice for labs and ECPs.
