Jillian Urcelay: What new features can we see in the latest Eco Biobased release?
Rebecca Giefer: Our fall/winter 2022 releases are stronger than ever by combining the core features of Eco Eyewear’s success that combine ready-to-wear shapes with fashion trending colors and of course, our polarized magnetic sun clips to help change your look in a snap!
For new colors, our teal to sand gradient from a reintroduced Marne along with the pink berry from the shape Pomelo have been top sellers. Colored torts like the Aronia’s blue tort or Fig’s warm tort, as well as gradients like Fennel’s black to blue have also been favorite selections from our customers!
The theme of color is important for us this season, but it was also a priority for us to expand our size offering. Eco Eyewear continues to serve many purposes on the practice boards, whether it’s a larger fit that we launched the Fennel in 57 for or the need for smaller petites, where we launched the Palm (46 eye size) and the Pomelo (48), this season’s releases show our commitments to a broader patient base.
As one of the original eco-friendly eyewear lines, how do you feel about the continued growth the industry is moving toward in terms of creating more sustainable eyewear collections?
As the pioneer of sustainable eyewear and an industry leader, we see it as a good thing when more companies embrace a sustainability journey. We launched Eco Eyewear back in 2009, and at the time, there were many unknowns, although we believed it was the right direction for us. Today, we remain as committed as ever, and we’re in it together with our employees and with our customers. We know that keeping sustainability at the core of our business and at the core of more businesses, is better for all of us in the long run.
Eco has had a lot of reasons to celebrate this year. Which accomplishment has been the most meaningful to you?
Yes, our Eco brand has grown and spread rapidly over the past few years, and we have been recognized by the press and various design awards, but the most meaningful has actually been earning the EyeVote Readers’ Choice Awards for 2020 and 2021, as the recognition from our partner vendors is truly an honor.
