20/20: How important was the heritage of both Flexon and Shinola when creating this collection?
Lauren Makofske: We designed the collection to embody each brand’s DNA and stay true to the craftsmanship of Shinola and the quality of Flexon. Throughout the collection, you can see the unique detail and artistry from the rich colorations to the metal accents.
Can you explain in more detail some of the Shinola design details that are seen throughout the collection?
The new Shinola Built by Flexon eyewear collection introduces modern yet classic shapes. The signature Shinola bolt logo is present throughout the collection, as well as the brand’s signature orange coloration on the temple tips. Details from Shinola’s bicycle hardware and watch collections have been interpreted through temple designs, two-tone metal colorations and sculpted temple shapes.
The Monster Collection features premium acetates with modern yet fashionable shapes. Each style within the collection provides signature cues from both Flexon and Shinola. The Runwell Collection features beautiful two-tone metal colorations inspired by the detailing of Shinola’s watch and jewelry collections. The Arrow Collection features injected acetate and metal combinations, creating a layering effect. Crystal colorations are used to display the construction of the frame.
