Perhaps I should keep it simple here since it is quite personal. My friend John Alofs recently asked me to confirm the correct spelling of my wife Kristen’s name. I thought it might be for some invite to an event he was planning in conjunction with his company Eyewear by R.O.I. It was for more than that.

Kristen is a cancer survivor.

Eyewear by R.O.I. licenses Karen Kane and Karen Kane Petites Eyewear. For these past few years R.O.I. has designed a specific frame featuring the color “pink” as either its primary or accent color and paired it with a custom pink Karen Kane case and custom cleaning cloth. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this yearly frame offering is donated to a cancer charity. Each year the frame’s name is chosen to honor a woman who has battled cancer.

This year’s Karen Kane Cancer Awareness frame is the “KRISTEN” honoring my wife. This particular style made its debut at the recent Vision Expo East and will be delivered in September in time for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To learn more go to eyewearbyroi.com or call (800) 888-7770. And tell them to tell John that James and Kristen say THANKS.

Noting that important things can sometimes be perhaps ever-so-slightly overlooked in the shuffle, here is 20/20 celebrating its Nike-via-Marchon cover, which was one of five 20/20 covers on a single issue at Expo East a few years ago.
