Modo launches its 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall ’08 sunglass line, a 12-style collection comprised of acetate and metal designs, including one titanium frame. An array of shapes and inspirations are available, ranging from subtle cat eyes to oversized aviators, vintage to futuristic, curved to flat and classic to contemporary in such hues as ivory, red, purple and brown and black gradient. Handmade in Japan, the sunglasses reflect the 3.1 design philosophy of forward yet practical—or in the designer’s own words, they “refine rather than define.”

 

PHILOSOPHY:

“Classic with a sense of madness… it’s about our traditionally favorite styles with the little and big details… that are signature 3.1 Phillip Lim,” says designer Phillip Lim. “The sunglass collection this fall is a nod to what I call driving culture… the Lance aviator for the sports car enthusiast; the Margot cat eye for the classic, convertible type; the Vivian for the girl who is driven to her destinations. I think it’s such a great image… being seen through the car window in an amazing pair of shades.”

MARKETING:

Packaging and POP reflect the overall sophistication of the collection and include logo plaques and look books. Frames come in a Phillip Lim case.

3.1 Phillip Lim debuted as a womenswear line in Fall 2005 and is now available in 250 boutiques and department stores nationwide, and is represented in 26 countries worldwide. In 2007, Lim received the CFDA Swarovski Award for emerging talent in womenswear. He has since expanded his line to include menswear and kidswear.
