KEVIN BLIGH JOINS QSPEX AS VP, SALES AND MARKETING
Industry veteran Kevin Bligh recently joined the senior management team of QSpex Technologies as vice president of sales and marketing. Bligh brings over 25 years of industry experience to QSpex, including senior management positions at Optical Connection and UltraVision Corp. Additionally, he was general manager for the optical channel of Revo and national sales manager for Essilor’s Logo Paris division.

“Kevin brings significant industry and management experience to QSpex, which is beneficial now that we are actively launching our innovative QSpex Premium Lens System into offices across the U.S.,” comments QSpex CEO Steve Martin.

The QSpex Premium Lens System is a breakthrough technology that allows vision care providers to produce top quality spectacle lenses “in-office” in about 35 minutes. Product availability includes single vision, polarized and advanced digital progressive designs, with a high quality, seven-layer, hydrophobic and oleophobic AR treatment. Photochromic lenses will be launched as well in the near future.

QSpex, based in Alpharetta, Ga., is currently installing systems in offices nationwide.

ACUVUE MARKS 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST DISPOSABLE CONTACT LENS WITH NEW LAUNCH

A quarter of a century after introducing the first disposable soft contact lens, Vistakon Division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care is launching 1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism brand contact lenses, a new daily disposable soft toric contact lens for individuals with astigmatism.

“Research confirms that nearly half of all patients requiring vision correction have clinically significant levels of astigmatism in at least one eye,” says W. Lee Ball, OD, FAAO, associate director, medical affairs, Vistakon. “Additional studies show that soft toric contact lenses such as 1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism provide significantly better visual acuity compared to spherical lenses for astigmatic patients, and provide comparable visual acuity to spectacle wear.”

Along with the health and convenience benefits of wearing a fresh contact lens every day, 1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism features a proprietary Blink Stabilized Design, which harnesses the natural pressures of a blinking eye to help keep the lens in place and quickly realign the lens if it rotates out of position, providing wearers with consistent, all-day vision. This also provides an advantage for practitioners because the lens settles within one minute, thus reducing chair time and the need for further progress evaluations, according to Vistakon.

1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism are made using Lacreon Technology, a process that permanently embeds a water holding ingredient, similar to that found in natural tears, into the proven etafilcon A material of the 1-Day Acuvue brand. This technological advancement locks in moisture that lasts throughout the day, addressing the most frequently reported complaints of contact lens discomfort—dryness and end of
day discomfort.

With over 1,500 SKUs (12 axes, 4 cylinders) at distance parameters of +4.00D to -9.00D, 1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism has the widest power range available of any daily disposable toric contact lens, allowing 95 percent of patients to be fit in the 1-Day Acuvue Moist family of lenses, even if they have astigmatism.

1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism blocks approximately 82 percent of UV-A radiation and 97 percent of UV-B radiation. Although UV-blocking contact lenses provide important added protection, they should not be viewed as a stand-alone solution. “For more complete protection, UV-blocking contact lenses should always be worn in conjunction with high quality, UV-blocking sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat,” says Dr. Ball.
