ST. LOUIS—The American Optometric Association is launching a new seminar, “Practice Transitions—Strategies for Making Them Happen,” designed to offer optometrists the fundamental steps on successfully buying or selling an optometric practice.

The first two AOA Practice Transitions seminars are planned for next month, in conjunction with ophthalmic industry conferences. The first is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 1, at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The second is scheduled for Oct.19, following the Great Western Council of Optometry Congress in Portland, Ore. Additional seminars are planned for 2009, according to the AOA.

AOA Practice Transitions will cover topics including generational issues, socioeconomic change, financial implications such as practice valuation and fractional ownership options, and legal and tax concerns. The seminar also offers information on the steps necessary to prepare, market and perform due diligence.

Registration for AOA members is $150. Non-members may register for $295. Register online at www.aoa.org/practice-transitions.xml. For further seminar information, contact Stacy Liles at 314-983-4111, or [email protected].
