CLINTON, Conn.—Ophthalmology Resources, a consultancy for ophthalmology dispensing, has launched a new “Medicare Post Cataract Eyewear Hotline,” a teleconferencing service for optical practices. In addition, practices can also sign up for a Web-based Medicare Post Cataract Eyewear workshop which provides in-depth consultation services and a free DME Suppliers Workbook.

“Post –op cataract eyewear is a significant source of revenue for many optical dispensaries, “said Pamela B Fritz, president of the company, adding “Our services show optical and billing personnel very specifically how to file claims correctly and get the proper reimbursements under Medicare guidelines. As the revenue stream for cataract surgery has been steadily declining, the revenue potential for post-cataract eyewear can be significant. Dispensaries are looking for ways to maximize their reimbursements, making sure that their post-cataract patients are taking full advantage of their Medicare eyewear benefits. At the same time, optical suppliers of eyewear for post-op cataract patients, referred to as DME Suppliers (Durable Medical Equipment) have become frustrated when navigating the increasingly complex Medicare field of claim filing and collecting of reimbursements.”

Ophthalmology Resources’ new programs offer both a one-hour consult service and a second, more extensive education of all practice staff (administrative, billing & optical) who are involved with Medicare post-cataract eyewear.

Fritz has extensive expertise in the area of Medicare post-cataract eyewear. She is also executive director and co-founder of the American Association of Dispensing Ophthalmologists, Inc., a national non-profit organization dedicated to education for dispensing ophthalmology. In that role, Fritz serves on the provider outreach education and advisory panels of three national Medicare administrative contractors or DME MAC’s. She is the only representative within the entire vision industry on three DME MAC panels.

Fritz said, “Our program is for any DME eyewear supplier, whether it is an optician, optometry or ophthalmology driven practice.” More info is available at www.dispensingophthalmology.com or via email, [email protected].
