NEW YORK—In an effort to raise awareness of glaucoma, March 6, 2008 has been designated as World Glaucoma Day. This global initiative is being spearheaded by the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association.

On March 6, governments, eyecare professionals and patient groups around the world will participate in activities to support World Glaucoma Day. Glaucoma, is the second leading cause of blindness in the U.S. and around the world, and the initiative will stress the need for regular eye examinations to encourage earlier detection and help preserve vision.

In an effort to promote World Glaucoma Day, Allergan is offering a free downloadable media tool kit including tips and template press materials designed to assist in communicating with the local media. The kit is free and can be downloaded by going to www.allergan.com or at the World Glaucoma Day Web site.
