MCLEAN, Va.--Services were held Tuesday for Sidney Weinrib, OD, a former chairman and partner of Sterling Optical, who died Sept. 16. He was 85.

The son of an eyeglass-frame salesman, Weinrib was a 1941 optics and optometry graduate of Columbia University. He joined Sterling Optical after World War II when it was a small Lower Manhattan business, and was a key figure in the company's growth during the next two decades, opening stores in Washington and elsewhere.

Weinrib sold Sterling to IPCO in 1971; he remained chairman of the Sterling Optical division and vice president of IPCO until his retirement in 1987.

Husband of the late Ruth Weinrib and father of the late Rene Henry, Weinrib is survived by daughters Donna Acker and her husband, Larry, and Jeri Taylor and her husband, Michael; his sister, Margie Bryant; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
