FRAME UNIT SALES GROWTH FOR THE
YEAR
Mass Merchandisers, Clubs Take the
Credit
There was an overall increase of 2.3 percent among all types of
optical outlets in total frame unit sales in 12ME September 2005
from 12ME September 2004, up to 66.5 million from 65.0 million. The
bulk of that increase was due to increased unit sales at mass
merchandisers and warehouse clubs, such as Target, Sam’s Club
and Wal-Mart, with a 5.2 percent increase. Department stores, such
as a Bloomingdales and Macy’s and Independent optical
retailers had a 2.5 percent increase, while conventional chains
decreased by 2.3 percent.
