SAN FRANCISCO—Jane Aguirre, the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s vice president for global alliances, was recently named president of Ophthalmic Women Leaders, a group with more than 400 members that promotes professional development, networking opportunities and personal growth for women in ophthalmology.

Said Aguirre, who co-founded OWL in 2003 and served as the organization’s treasurer through 2007, “Last year OWL’s network expanded into Europe. I look forward to strengthening the connections among women in ophthalmology in the U.S. and abroad.”

She succeeds outgoing OWL president Jaci Lindstrom. Aguirre joined the AAO staff in 1981.
