NEW YORK—A new ViewPoint Study examines independent ECPs' evaluation and views toward specific standard managed vision care plans. The survey conducted in July 2011 by Jobson Optical Research, of a respondent pool of 348 independent ECPs who are all active at different practices in groups of three locations or less, reflects a range of informtion including what percentage of their patients use each plan and how they rate plans on 12 specific performance criteria.

The Managed Vision Care ViewPoint Study asks questions about 14 specific major vision care plans; those are rated by participating respondents on a number of criteria along with a ranking of how important each of those performance critera are to the respondents.

Respondents also indicated why or why not they participate in managed vision care plans.

The vision care plans included in the 2011 Managed Vision Care ViewPoint Study include: Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Avesis Vision and Dental, Cigna Vision, Davis Vision/Highmark BCBS, EyeMed Vision Care, Humana Vision, MES Vision, NVA (National Vision Administration), Opticare, Preferred Vision Care, Safeguard Dental and Vision, Spectera/United Health Care, Superior Vision Care, and VSP Vision Care.

Among the performance criteria ranked by independent ECPs in the study are: providing patient/customer satisfaction of your location, providing the best overall value to your patients/customers, providing ease of verification of member eligibility information, promptness of claims submissions and payments, assisting to retain patients and get new patients and reimbursement level evaluations.
