ALEXANDRIA, Va.— The Foundation for Eye Health Awareness hosted the second Eye Health Summit earlier this month at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois.

Themed “From the Foundation Up,” the Eye Health Summit provided its 150 attendees, drawn from all sectors of the professional vision care field and optical industry, a chance to participate in small group and breakout sessions plus several networking activities. “With participants ranging from nonprofit organizations to manufacturers to managed care plans, the Summit brought together key decisionmakers from throughout the vision community,” stated Mike Daley, president and executive director of the Foundation, who, along with board members, welcomed Summit attendees.

This year’s format included a keynote speaker, Lynn Vos, CEO of Grey Healthcare Group, who addressed trends in healthcare communications. Foundation board members Barry Barresi, OD, PhD, Wally Lovejoy, Greg Marko and Dave Sattler gave a history of the Foundation, summarized current activities and spoke about future plans.

Health Summit, hosted by the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness.

Eye Health Summit attendees also had a chance to learn about the Think About Your Eyes campaign, which the Foundation will begin managing in 2011. The Think About Your Eyes presentation highlighted the campaign elements, including advertising, web and social media outreach, public relations and market research. Presentations from the Summit are posted on the Foundation’s Eye Health Summit Web site.

“This year’s Summit showed that we have individuals from all areas of the vision community who are committed to improving eye health among all Americans, especially those at risk of eye disease,” said Barresi, chair of the board of directors for the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness.

The Foundation for Eye Health Awareness also announced it has appointed Stephanie Campbell, most recently marketing director at The Vision Council, as its managing director.
