NEW YORK—“Avatar,” “Shrek Forever After,” “Inception”—the public is clamoring for the latest generation of 3D cinema offerings, and according to VM’s latest Quick Poll, which asked how popular 3D glasses will be for your practice, a full quarter of respondents anticipate a popular consumer response and reported that their patients “are already asking for 3D products.”

Sources report that the first 3D glasses were employed in the late 1890s or early 1900s, and the once disposable, flimsy paper and cellophane models have evolved over the past century into sleek, personal devices produced by the likes of Sony, Samsung, Nvidia, and more—including Marchon 3D, with a major new initiative that will feature 3D glasses that double as UV protective sunwear and also promises Rx options.

Seventeen percent of VM’s Poll respondents say they are “open to the concept” of selling personal 3D glasses, but 58 percent see the products as a “passing fad” despite the current availability of and buzz about 3D televisions for the home.
