ST. PAUL, Minn.— Contact lens ophthalmologists, optometrists and other eyecare professionals will present on the latest technologies and innovations in contact lens and anterior segment science at the upcoming 2009 International Contact Lens Summit (ICLS) in Montréal. The event, sponsored by the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists (CLAO), will be held Sept 24 to 26 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel here.

“The Montréal Summit is an opportunity for ophthalmologists, optometrists, and contact lens professionals from around the world to unite for continuing medical education and to discuss exciting developments in this important vision care field,” said CLAO president Jean-Pierre Chartrand, MD.

Participants will have 25 courses to choose from during the 3-day program in Montréal. Courses will cover a range of topics related to contact lens care and feature content relevant to both ophthalmologists and optometrists. Event leadership noted that the ICLS is unique because it brings together leading international professionals, associations, and societies with shared interests and goals for the future of contact lens and anterior segment care.

ICLS co-chair Daniel Brazeau, OD, said the event is an important and exciting global gathering for vision care professionals. “This will be an exceptional meeting for ophthalmologists and optometrists internationally, and we especially look forward to welcoming many of our Canadian colleagues to the program.”

In addition to CLAO, North America’s leading contacts lens ophthalmological association, other participating societies and associations include: Japan Contact Lens Society (JCLS); Sociedade Brasileira de Lentes de Contato (SOBLEC); European Contact Lens Society of Ophthalmologists (ECLSO); Asia Pacific Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, and International Medical Contact Lens Council (IMCLC).

A total of 16.5 possible continuing medical education (CME) credits have been approved for this educational program, and the Quebec Order of Optometrists has approved eight hours of Ocular Health A Credits and eight hours of General Optometry A Credits for the 2009 ICLS event.
