SAN ANTONIO—HVHC’s Eye Care Centers of America retail subsidiary reported increases in both revenues and net income for the full year 2008 in its annual report filed recently with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In its 2008 fiscal year, ended Jan. 3, 2009, ECCA’s revenues reached $537.6 million, up from $477.8 million in fiscal 2007. The chain’s comparable-store sales rose 7 percent during 2008.

Managed vision care reimbursements represented 31 percent of the chain's total revenues last year; ECCA received $17.4 million in reimbursements through Davis Vision, its sister division within HVHC, the annual report indicated. The chain's net income in 2008 was $32.9 million, vs. income of $25.2 million in 2007.

As of March 15, 2009, ECCA operated 430 locations in 36 states. During 2008, the chain opened 22 new stores and closed eight units.
