NEW YORK—Vision Expo East opened its doors for business here yesterday and attendees, exhibitors, sports legends and optical rock stars all came together for the start of the 2009 show. As attendees poured into the newly redesigned exhibit hall, sounds of the OffAxis rock band could be heard throughout the Crystal Palace. With registrations from all 50 states and more than 70 countries, attendees seemed eager to hit the show floor and catch up on the latest trends in fashion, technology and education. And catching a glimpse of stars like baseball great Mike Piazza or glamorous personality Paris Hilton were just an extra added bonus.

For months leading up to the start of Expo East, attendance has been top of mind for show organizers who developed special programs and rates. “We implemented multiple travel programs, including parking, hotel and air fare discounts,” according to Tom Loughran, event director, Reed Exhibitions.

“Given the current economy, our goal was to attract quality attendees to the show. Our rate of return attendees has risen over years past and buyers are now our largest category of attendees. We look to expand upon these growth points in the coming year to further enhance the show,” he said.
