L’Amy America, manufacturer and distributor of sunglasses and ophthalmic frames—including the Nina Ricci line—in partnership with Nina Ricci, Paris, relaunches the Nina Ricci sunglass worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. To promote this new Special Edition collection, L’Amy is using the original iconic photo of Onassis wearing the sunglass, Nina Ricci 3203, for which it has acquired exclusive worldwide rights. The photograph was taken on January 30, 1978, during the Robert F. Kennedy Pro Celebrity Tennis Tournament. In keeping with the spirit of the original frame created by Nina Ricci in the late ’70s, the new piece was designed and manufactured in France. The frame is made of Mazzucchelli gradient acetate and is accented with a metal trim along the temples. It’s offered in six colors: black, gray/green, smoked gray, brown/orange, brown/purple and tortoiseshell. Lenses are CR-39 with a gradient color treatment and six-base curve.

PHILOSOPHY: “We are thrilled with the opportunity to offer this authentic ‘Jackie’ model for Spring ’09,”  says Stephen Rappoport, L’Amy America president. “Customer and media response have been tremendous. Ms. Onassis’ legendary style has been impeccably recreated and this model definitely captures current trends of dramatic shape and superior, oversized coverage.”

MARKETING:
The Special Edition collection is packaged in a six-place presentation box with mirrored sides and features the Jackie O image. Small (5” by 7”) countercards are also available. Each sunglass comes with a white hard case.

TIP
The Nina Ricci 3203 was often seen on Jackie Onassis and sunglasses became such an iconic part of her style that the expression ”Jackie O sunglass” was coined by the press for specific oversized designs.
