Since this is our “fashion designer” eyewear issue I suppose I should be writing about the hottest name brands, the secrets of marketing those brands in eyewear, the ins and outs of being a super merchandiser without losing sight of your mission as a dedicated eyecare professional and the spectacular behind-the-scenes photo shoot conceived and delivered by art director Iris Johnson and acclaimed fashion photographer Mark Babushkin.

But I’m sitting here smiling about a postcard (NOT an email… a POSTCARD… written with a fountain pen… so cool!) I received a few weeks ago in response to 20/20’s Fashion Focus, “Preppy with Panache,” in the June issue.

Dear Sirs,

Your article on bowties and pocket squares was highly amusing to me. Every day I dress for work in my costume. I am 72 years old and I wear a dress shirt, suit or sports jacket with slacks. My wardrobe is varied. It includes summer clothes, winter clothes and transitional clothing. It is basically preppy. I have over 100 bowties. There is never a dress down day in the store. In pocket squares there are usually two dozen or more to choose from in my wardrobe. My clothing has been like this for about 40 years or so.

Sincerely yours,
Sam Resnick, Opt.
