I promised I wouldn’t be mentioning the amazing accomplishment of our “Five-Cover” April 2016 issue again but I can’t possibly avoid mentioning it once more because… 20/20 JUST WON THE BEST COVER FOLIO OZZIE AWARD FOR 2016 FOR THIS TERRIFIC INITIATIVE!

So babyish for me to use all caps there but I can’t help it. I’m SO excited. Yes, it’s cool and fun and special for all of us in editorial and art (Art Director Iris Johnson is the rightful keeper of the actual trophy) winning an award of this nature considering the fierce competition in both print and digital media these days but this particular award has added depth worthy of recap.

Shortly before the complex photo shoot for this multi-covered effort occurred, a new positive wrinkle developed in the form of a potential video and actual televised media coverage being thrown into the mix. Since the whole issue’s purpose was being bolstered by the then upcoming Vision Expo East in NYC, we looked on the effort as a means of making our precious opti-universe front and center in the eyes not only of all the players within our community but also as a way for consumers to understand the powerful impact great eyewear can have on enhancing THEIR quest for better vision and proper eyecare. That potential of added bearing and presence was pushed through the roof when we found out the actual reported video footage would be on constant play in most of the NYC taxicabs during Expo week and weekend. Ice that cake with Marchon Eyewear deciding to promote our covers at their sponsored Optical Women’s Association event at the top of the new One World Trade Center building, and we knew we had a winner on hand that surged far beyond just five covers on an issue.

I’m convinced the added celebrations cinched the award and equally sure the clarion of our photo shoot being featured in numerous cabs that week put eyewear and sunwear center stage in a light so bright and so encouraging in the scenario of vending and dispensing 20/20 adores and implores. So this Ozzie was a win/win for all of us. Hope you agree that Iris deserves keeping it on her desk!
