A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, Rick began his career at Chilton Publishing Co. in West Philadelphia, while attending Temple University. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. He rose to the position of vice president at Chilton Publishing, at the helm of more than 40 publications. After the 1999 acquisition of the Reviews, Rick was Publisher and President of the Review of Optometry and Review of Ophthalmology, Jobson Medical Information.

To those of us who worked for him, he was a leader whose essence was based in a fierce and boundless loyalty.

To those in the industry and professions he served, he will be remembered for his unique array of skills and dedication to exceeding the expectations of his customers, so many of whom would become fast friends.

To honor Rick and leave a lasting legacy of his impact on the optical world, the Rick Bay Foundation was born.

The Rick Bay Excellence in Eyecare Education Scholarship in Optometry will be awarded to a student at Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, Elkins Park, PA.

The Rick Bay Excellence in Eyecare Education Scholarship in Ophthalmology will be awarded to advance the education of a Fellow in training at Wills Eye Institute, Philadelphia, PA.

Each of the selected students or Fellows will be chosen by their school based on qualities that embody Rick’s commitment to the profession including integrity, compassion, partnership and dedication to the greater good.
