Sport athletes earn recognition for their performance—why shouldn’t sport eyewear? San Diego, Calif.-based sport eyewear retailer SPORTRX spec-ed up to the challenge by hosting its first ever SportRx Awards in Las Vegas. Also known as the REXYS, the ceremony recognized sport eyewear brands for product quality, design and innovation across 12 categories. Winners were selected based on sales data, customer reviews and expertise from SportRx optical pros, who have specialized in making prescription lenses in wraparound sport frames since 1996. “Sport prescription eyewear has been our specialization for over 20 years. We carry the top brands and have customized millions of prescription eyewear combinations for our customers. Because of that, we have a unique view of the industry,” says Dan Bruton, SportRx president. “The SportRx Awards is our way of thanking our brand partners for creating quality product that we trust to put onto the faces of our customers. It is also how we let customers know the best available options on the market,” adds Rob Tavakoli, SportRx vice president.

Among the first annual REXYS winners are: Oakley Flak 2.0 XL (Best All-Around Sport Sunglasses); Nike Mercurial 6.0 (Best High Rx Sport Solution); Spy Weston (Best Eyeglasses); Kaenon Burnett (Best Athleisure Sunglasses); Costa Tuna Alley (Best Fishing Sunglasses) and Wiley X Gravity (Best Motorcycle Sunglasses).

The competition is fierce when it comes to sport eyewear design and high-tech innovation. Consumers want the best—and sport eyewear brands are delivering the best, illustrating that more than ever, sport eyewear is a prime category in the opti-arena.
