The House of Balenciaga was founded in Paris in 1937 by Cristobel Balenciaga, a Spanish designer. Balenciaga had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was referred to as the “master of us all” by Christian Dior. His bubble skirts and feminine, yet ultra-modern shapes were trademarks of the house. Alexander Wang is Balenciaga’s current creative director.
