DAC UV-SANITIZER
DAC Technologies

A compact-size tabletop unit that uses UV-C technology to kill more than 99.9 percent of viruses, bacteria and bacterial spores in 55 seconds. This safe, easy-to-use one-button-operation unit sanitizes eyeglasses, frames, sunglasses, mobile phones, tablets, masks, keys, pens, as well as dispensing tools such as pliers, screwdrivers and more. The DAC-UV Sanitizer has been used in over 700 hospitals nationwide for several years and tested for disinfection effectiveness in an FDA-approved facility. It was named to the 2020 list of Best Infection Protection Products by Newsweek Magazine and the Leapfrog Group, and was the only tabletop germicidal enclosure named to the list.

Features: he patented technology and design is based on Dr. Wayne Clark’s innovative UV enhancement or photon trap technology that permits the use of relatively low power UV-C sources to achieve high-microbial killing levels. The increased irradiation of the device’s 200mJ/cm2 UV-C dose produces a disinfection rate of up to 99.999 percent. In addition, the enclosed reflective inner chamber design provides a more uniform and consistent dose application compared to handheld UV devices.

The DAC UV-Sanitizer comes with a two-year warranty and technical support. It is UL-certified for UV and electrical safety.

ANTI-FOG SOLUTIONS
Essilor

Essilor’s Anti-Fog Solutions portfolio consists of two products: Essilor Anti-Fog AR and Optifog.

Features: Essilor Anti-Fog AR is a new product best suited for patients bothered by fog on their lenses due to wearing face masks, where the fog mostly occurs on the back surface of the lens.

  • Anti-Fog coating on the backside of the lens which repels fog especially when wearing face masks.
  • No-Glare coating on the front side of the lens which reduces glare, water, smudges and is easy to clean.
  • Permanent solution which does not require wipes or drops for anti-fog activation.
  • Best suited for patients bothered by fog on lenses due to wearing face masks.

“The situation with COVID is that the fog is not caused by environmental factors or work. It comes from an individual wearing a lens,” explains Jeff Harrell, Essilor’s senior director, product marketing. “Ninety percent of that is going to occur on the back surface of the lens. So you need a fog-free solution on both surfaces which allow you to increase the AR properties and improve some of the trade-offs on the front surface of the lens, where a lot of smudges and interactivity with water are going to occur. The fog is going to occur on the back. With Anti-Fog AR, you get a good balance of the AR, the scratch resistance and the cleanability, but also the fog free that’s going to allow you to see clearly with a mask on. Because it’s a permanent anti-fog solution, the consumer doesn’t need drops or wipes to activate it. It’s a little bit of a different offer for the needs of today.”

Optifog is recommended for patients bothered by fog due to activities such as skiing (athletes), cooking (chefs) or due to varying weather conditions that create fogging issues on both sides of the lens.

  • Premium No-Glare lens with Anti-Fog coating on both sides which repels fog.
  • No-Glare coating reduces glare, scratches and dust.
  • Comes with four Optifog Smart Textiles (annual supply) which should be used to activate the anti-fog topcoat of the lens.
  • Best suited for patients bothered by fog due to activities such as skiing, cooking or varying weather conditions—situations beyond just wearing face masks.

Availability: Essilor Anti-Fog AR is available with only Airwear polycarbonate lenses and a wide variety of designs including Varilux, Essilor PALs, Eyezen and single vision lenses. Optifog is available with all lens materials (1.50 plastic, Airwear polycarbonate, Thin & Lite 1.67 and 1.74 lenses) and designs including Varilux, Essilor PALs, Eyezen and single vision lenses. Both products are now available through Essilor labs as well as independent (IDD) labs.
