Shamir Insight

Shamir Autograph II+ is an enhanced lens that addresses everyday visual demands with the incorporation of two new digital technologies: Close-Up and Natural Posture..

Features: An upgraded version of the Shamir Autograph II design, Shamir Autograph II+ is a back-surfaced, digital freeform design that meets the everyday needs of today’s presbyopes. Shamir Autograph II+ provides wide fields of view and a personalized Rx based on a patient’s selected frame, utilizing As-Worn Technology. Shamir’s new Close-Up technology adjusts the reading zone inset of the lens, allowing for a more comfortable visual experience for both reading and intermediate viewing. The adjustments are made in 0.1 mm steps within a range of 0 to 5 mm, to accommodate an individual’s unique convergence during near viewing.

Natural Posture minimizes discomfort and allows for a more natural, ergonomic near viewing posture. This technology controls the location of the near viewing zone as a function of a plus or minus Rx, influencing both posture and head position.

Availability: Shamir Autograph II+ will be available in variable and fixed designs, including 11 mm, 13 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm fitting heights. Shamir Autograph II+ will be offered in 1.5 Hard Resin, DLC Trivex, 1.56, NXT, SuperLite 1.60, SuperLite 1.67, Polycarbonate and SuperLite 1.74 in a variety of treatments.

Essilor of America

The Essential Blue Series brand of blue light filtering lenses combines harmful blue light protection and clarity in one lens.

Features: Essential Blue Series lenses deliver up to three times more protection from harmful blue light than standard clear lenses, according to Essilor. Essilor defines harmful blue light as the blue-violet wavelengths between 415 and 455 nm on the light spectrum that are believed to be most toxic to retinal cells. Emerging research has pointed to a possible link between exposure to these wavelengths and long-term vision issues such as age-related macular degeneration.

While Essential Blue Series lenses help protect from harmful blue light, they do allow for exposure to beneficial blue light—which Essilor defines as 465 to 495 nm on the light spectrum—which has been shown to play an important role in the sleep/wake cycle, memory, cognitive performance and other factors that contribute to general wellness.

Availability: Before the launch of Essential Blue Series, Harmful Blue Light protection was available with Varilux digital lenses, Eyezen+ single vision lenses and Crizal Prevencia lenses, making up approximately 15 percent of Essilor’s core product portfolio. With Essential Blue Series, blue light protection in a clear lens will be available in all Essilor progressive and single vision lenses, comprising 100 percent of the company’s core product portfolio.

OptiSource International

OptiSource’s Axis 900 Auto Lensometer was developed with simplicity, accuracy and affordability in mind. The highly accurate unit offers the essential features needed by today’s opticians at a competitive price.

  • Green light beam: a reliable light source for achieving better accuracy on measurements.
  • Improved optical system predicts lens type and automatically switches measuring mode for precise measurement.
  • Compatible with high curved lenses.
  • Contact lenses measurement is easily performed with included accessories.
  • Sleep mode: If the unit has not been used for a set period of time (3, 5, 10 minutes), it will automatically enter power saving mode.
  • Contact lens measuring nose piece, dust cover and printer paper (AXIS 900P only) are included.
“Optisource checks all the right boxes with the Axis 900. They stripped out the fluff and made an accurate, high-speed lensometer that’s perfect for my fast-paced practice. No need to fumble with menu settings and options; just read the lens, print the ticket, and get back to the customer. I’ve never read a PAL faster. For the price, it’s the best bang for your buck,” comments Ben Urso, ABOC, Lindy Eye Care.

Coburn Technologies

Designed for early detection of glaucoma, the SK-850A Visual Field Analyzer is an automatic pure optical projection perimeter designed with full compliance with the Goldman standard. All features of the SK-850A are designed according to international standards and provide a quantitative evaluation of the retina macula function. The SK-850A comes in two different models, Standard and Expert, with the Expert designed with enhanced features for more advanced testing.

The SK-650A Retinal Camera is a non-mydriatic retinal camera and is DICOM compatible. Built to easily transition from eye surface to fundus examination, the SK-650A proves to be a comprehensive tool for ophthalmology, physical examination and eye screening.

Both products are FDA approved and now available through Coburn Technologies.

  • Auto gaze tracking: three-dimensional fixation monitoring with infrared light tracking of the pupil on the x, y and z planes.
  • Ease of use: easy to read printed report, without requiring any additional training or explanation.
  • Auto-calibration: automatic calibration and brightness measurement immediately when the machine is powered on.
  • Auto mosaic function: built with a nine-point fixation system allowing for auto mosaic photography over a large retinal area.
  • Optical red-free: red-free visual testing for obvious comparison of nerve fiber layers to help diagnose glaucoma.
  • Superior picture quality: new optical design guarantees full 45-degree image capture to avoid losing fundus information, while producing premier quality imaging.

Signet Armorlite

Signet Armorlite is expanding its Kodak Lens Professional Series with the addition of Kodak Unique DRO Progressive Lenses. The lenses are designed to provide sharp vision at all distances while optimizing the reading zone to support prolonged viewing of mobile devices.

Features: Kodak Unique DRO Progressive Lens builds upon the features and benefits of Kodak Unique Lens including a full backside progressive lens design, Vision First Design, i-Sync, six corridor lengths and availability in more than 60 materials. To accommodate the increased use of the reading area for mobile devices, Kodak Unique DRO Lens introduces Dynamic Reading Optimization (DRO), a technology that improves the overall optical performance of the lens while significantly reducing oblique astigmatic errors in the reading area. When compared to the Kodak Unique Lens, Kodak Unique DRO Lens increases the effective reading area an average of 17 percent and decreases total oblique astigmatic errors in the reading zone an average of 54 percent. Kodak Unique DRO Progressive Lens allows the eyes to comfortably focus in the reading area for longer periods of time. Kodak Unique DRO HD (High-Definition) Progressive Lens is also available.

The new Prizm Dark Golf lens from Oakley features the same performance benefits as its Prizm Sport Golf lens, but it’s a darker lens that is optimized for sunny days.

Features: The Oakley Prizm Dark Golf lens brings out fine detail with precise light filtering that’s specifically engineered for the golf environment. It enhances visual contrast, and the color of the lens has a more neutral aesthetic for those who prefer a more casual look on the course. The lens helps golfers see grass health and textures that might otherwise be missed, making it easier to see transitions between the fairway, fringe and rough. Improves contrast so golfers can spot differences to fine-tune their approach to the hole. The separation of colors creates more depth cues to gauge distance for any shot from the tee box to the green, helping golfers easily differentiate grass conditions and grain direction to predict ball speed.
