The R de Cartier collection is Cartier’s newest ophthalmic eyewear line. Designed for the hip, modern man, the collection pays tribute to the automobile universe. Launched in 2001, The Roadster watch from the House of Cartier was inspired by the multitude of cars produced in the U.S. in the 1950s—sports cars with futuristic bodies that symbolized wealth and modernity. The brushed metal frame front is inspired by the roadster’s bumpers. The metal brow bar is the fruit of many bending and stamping operations required to meet the aesthetic demands set by Cartier designers. The metal bar is carefully brushed on the outside for a matte finish and polished on top for more light play. The perfected cut-out of the screw motif is guaranteed by a diamond crafting operation. The acetate temples are also hand polished. Spring hinges guarantee comfort. The collection comes in two masculine shapes—rectangular and oval with a brushed platinum or brushed anthracite finish.

PHILOSOPHY: “Using carefully selected materials and uncompromising finishes, Cartier presents the new R de Cartier optical eyewear collection inspired by Cartier’s iconic Roadster watch, which combines classic elegance and supreme luxury with the demands of modern style,” says Martin Gatins, senior vice president of wholesale, Cartier North America.
