California-based, Italian-made eyewear line Shauns California releases its debut collection of optical frames. Consisting of eight new styles (57 SKUs), the brand continues its “Give Sight” program started with its sunglass collection. A balance of rounds, rectangles and CatEyes of varying sizes and a distinctive retro racer crossover style from the sunglasses are offered. Four of the new shapes are constructed with 100 percent acetate, and four designs combine stainless steel, acetate and colorful enamel. The collection includes two enamel-filled metal temple designs: A “trench” is milled out of the metal temple and filled with colored enamel. Frame colors consist of some of the most popular tones from the sun collection: abalone shell, granite and military green as well as such new hues as walnut burr. Many of the colors are paired with gold stainless steel or gunmetal to create a striking effect.

PHILOSOPHY: “Taking inspiration from past sunglass collections, Shauns optical line does not stray from Shauns’ mantra of  ‘Soulful Luxury.’ It’s designed in California and handcrafted in family-owned workshops at the foot of the Italian Alps, serving as a testament to the finest attention to detail and craftsmanship,” says Shauns founder and creative director Shaun Paterson.

MARKETING: A key priority of Shauns California is its “Give Sight” program. With each pair of glasses sold, the brand donates a pair of prescription glasses and sponsors an eye exam for a person in a developing country.

INSIGHT
All of the new acetate frames in the optical collection include a metal hinge lining in which the temple is finished with a metal cap, engraved with the Braille “S” logo for Shauns. Invisible when it’s on the wearer’s face, the detail is purely for the wearer’s pleasure.
