Based in New York City, Lumete Eyewear, which launched in 2010, is an independent sunglass brand for women. Founded by Clara Herrera, Lumete’s designer and creative director, and Barbara Warren, CEO, Lumete sunglasses are fabricated from handmade acetate and equipped with hardcoated CR-39 lenses. The sunglasses feature sculptural details and striking curves and angles such as serpentine temples and symbolic ornamentation, all resulting in ultra-feminine designs. Three collections are currently available: Arcana I, Arcana II and Gnosis. Each collection is a limited edition with new styles put into production one time only. Orders are fulfilled on a first come, first served basis. Lumete sunglasses are made in the USA with imported materials.

“We see Lumete eyewear as a niche brand designed for the woman who wears independent clothing brands and is looking for the same approach in her eyewear,” says Barbara Warren. “We also see our eyewear as collectible objects for women who want several pairs for different looks,” adds Clara Herrera.

MARKETING: The sunglasses come with an ornate, signature hard case, pouch and cleaning cloth. Postcards depicting creative, colorful vignettes of specific sunglass styles and their sources of inspiration are used to support the collection. Customized merchandising materials are available.

Lumete was born out of Clara Herrera’s lifelong obsession with eyewear and Barbara Warren’s longtime entrepreneurial dreams. The name “lumete” (lou-met) is derived from “amulet,” which means a precious object used for protection and luck, and “lumen,” meaning light.
