ClearVision Optical and designer Marc Ecko launch Marc Ecko Cut & Sew Sunwear. A 13-style ophthalmic collection was previewed here last month. Marrying pop culture with re-imagined cult classics, the initial sunglass collection contains five styles, including a clubmaster, aviators and rectangles. Four of the sunglasses are equipped with polycarbonate lenses in a mix of solid, gradient and flash mirror treatments; one style has CR-39 lenses. Components for the hardware were drawn from industrial and utilitarian tools such as machinist tools, microphones and record turntables. Textures were inspired by vintage foot lockers, driving gloves and car vents.

PHILOSOPHY:
“Our new Marc Ecko Cut & Sew sun collection is an extension of the artistic creativity found in the Cut & Sew eyewear line,” says Jennifer Coppel, manager of product design and development at ClearVision. “The modern, contemporary styling of each of the five sun designs was inspired by the same craftsmanship, turn-of-the century innovation and vintage pop culture elements seen in the 13 optical styles. The wearer will be intrigued by the subtle surprises and hidden details that distinguish each design. Overall, Marc Ecko Cut & Sew suns provide a sexy, stealth vibe that appeals to our target demographic of men 20 to 40.”

Merchandising materials include a two- to three-place frame display with built-in technology, frameboard highlighter, countercard, brand ID, window cling, T-shirts and customized cleaning cloths. Paying homage to Marc Ecko’s grandfather, a tailor, the curve of the temples was inspired by a pair of tailor’s shears, and all the temples feature the signature laser shears logo.
