Specialty Lens Launches Unconventional Sweepstakes

Specialty Lens Corporation, the makers of iRx Polaroid Lenses, has launched a new promotion, “It’s About the Patient, Not the Prize Sweepstakes” that runs through August 31. Rather than send someone on a European cruise or other exotic vacation, iRx Polaroid will award the lucky winner a 1980s Dodge Aries. The Aries will then be donated to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation in the name of the contest winner.

“As a loyal iRx Polaroid customer, I’m a little afraid this promotion might backfire on Specialty Lens,” says Ron Wolcott, owner of Wolcott Optical in Salt Lake City. “Their design is to have me think more about my patients, but I can’t take my mind off this car!”

Wolcott says he has long been obsessed with the style, handling and luxury of the Dodge Aries, once trading a 1965 Shelby Mustang to get his hands on a vintage 1984 K-Car. “If I win this contest, I hope I’ll have the option to keep the Aries for myself,” he says.

“This is kind of tongue-in-cheek promotion,” says Jon Schmitt, marketing manager for SLC. “The ‘It’s About the Patient’ theme highlights the main motivation for most eyecare professionals, whose primary concern is to do what’s best for the patient while dispensing prescription sunwear.”

The sweepstakes are available at www.irxlens.com/aries, where participants can enter by pledging this summer to put the patient before the prize.
