Luxottica: AK Anne Klein Sunwear
Luxottica Group introduces the AK Anne Klein 2002 Sunwear collection in conjunction with the fashion house’s recent debut of the AK Anne Klein clothing line, consisting of contemporary, everyday, moderately priced merchandise. Designed for self-assured women who desire classic styling, the new eyewear collection is comprised of five bold plastics, seven metals, including three semi-rimless frames, and a wearable, fashion-forward shield. Many of the lenses feature gradient flash mirror treatments in colors ranging from plum fade and teal blue to a transparent mirror
.

PHILOSOPHY: “The heritage of the Anne Klein brand is to satisfy the needs of the American woman, providing her great clothes with clean, comfortable styling. This is the foundation upon which the new AK Anne Klein Sunglass collection has been developed,” says Jean Scott, Luxottica vice president product development. “The new line offers a variety of designs, materials and colors—all aimed at giving the Anne Klein aficionado options in selecting several pairs of sunglasses to complement her active lifestyle. Choices range from frames that afford great sun protection on a bright day to styles with lightly tinted lenses that make the perfect accessory for evening,” Scott adds.

Live Eyewear: Cocoons
Live Eyewear introduces Cocoons, a patented collection of polarized sunglasses designed to be worn over prescription eyewear. Cocoons will be available exclusively through optical retailers. The frames come in four shapes—aviator, cat eye, rectangular and square. They are sized to fit over a wide range of Rx styles, are Rxable, feature adjustable Comfort flex temples and are available in matte black or tortoise. Lenses are made of Polar TX, are polarized, scratch-resistant, have a UV400 rating and are offered in gray (14 percent light transmission) and amber (13 percent light transmission).

PHILOSOPHY: “Cocoons has redefined the concept of shades covering Rx eyewear, improving not only frame and lens quality, but offering more value for the price,” says Live Eyewear general manager Kieran Hardy. PRESENTATION: Merchandising materials include frame display stands, posters and window decals. Each frame comes with a lined neoprene case with a belt clip and a cleaning cloth.

Eastern States & Ultra/Palm: Cazal Sun
The Cazal spring sunglass collection, from Eastern States Eyewear and Ultra/Palm Optical, debuts with four metal/plastic combination styles in feminine and unisex designs. Shapes consist of angled variations on rectangles, ovals and upsweeps and include a three-piece mount and semi-rimless frame. Eye sizes range from 49mm to 61mm. The emphasis in the new collection is on bold styling with an abundance of gold and tortoise motifs and such decorative accents as stones, open endpiece and temple work, prominent logo treatments, thick outer eye rims and wide temples.

PHILOSOPHY: “In keeping with the Cazal tradition and right in step with current fashion trends, the new Cazal sunglass collection offers bold designs and innovative treatments for the individual who want to be noticed,” says Brad Besner, Ultra/Palm co-president. PRESENTATION: Merchandising materials include a poster, two standard-size countercards, two mini countercards and two postcards. Sunglasses come with a hard case and gift bag.

Artoptic: Flexyl
Artoptic International launches Flexyl, a collection of lightweight all zyl frames featuring a flexible technology incorporated directly into the temple design. The technology virtually eliminates the need for adjustments, according to Artoptic. Manufactured in Italy and targeted to individuals of all ages, the collection consists of two masculine rectangular shapes and a softened rectangular design for women. Frames are offered in black, gray-amber and tortoise. Eye sizes range from 51mm to 55mm. A collection with metal eye rims and flexyl temples will be added later this year.

PHILOSOPHY: “The Flexyl collection represents a new dimension in lightweight comfort, while maintaining fashionable styling,” says Artoptic president George Gero. “The flexibility in the temples affords superior comfort to the wearer and makes the frames suitable for any size face.” PRESENTATION: Each frame comes with a hard case.

Essilor: Single Vision
Thin & Lite 1.67 Crizal
Essilor Lenses introduces Single Vision Thin & Lite Crizal coated lenses. Made of a 1.67 high-index material and treated with Crizal, an anti-reflective coating, the new lenses not only reduce glare, they also have a high level of durability and superior resistance against scratching, peeling and smudging—a critical component in this high-index lens, Essilor says. The lenses, which have a 1.1mm minimum center thickness, are offered in an aspheric design. With the Crizal coating, light transmission is improved from 87 percent to 97 percent. The lenses also feature the exclusive Crizal Air Mark logo on the right lens, which can only be seen when fogged. Powers range from  +8.00 to -13.00, to a –4.00 cylinder.

PHILOSOPHY: “Essilor’s Single Vision Thin & Lite with Crizal provides high-index lens wearers with the ultimate quality in toughness and durability while decreasing annoying glare from the lens surface,” says John Carrier, Essilor of America senior vice president of marketing. “You wouldn’t buy a car without a seat belt; likewise, you should never buy a lens without Crizal.” PRESENTATION: Product support materials and tools are available.
