Upfront

The BOLIs are a big deal. Long Island is a hotbed of advertising, marketing and branding opportunities so the nearly 1,500 entries submitted for the prestigious 32nd BOLI (Best On Long Island) awards gets tremendous visibility. Cheers then to Marchon Eyewear for winning six “Best of” awards, breaking the company’s long-standing record of five. The team also received six gold awards, two silvers and eight bronzes. Taking the top “Best of” honors were:

- Best Consumer Campaign Non-retail—Airlock “Dressing Room”
- Best Business-to-Business Campaign—Airlock “Dressing Room”
- Best Merchandise Display—Airlock “12 piece display”
- Best Table Top and Counter Display—Airlock “12 piece display”
- Best Catalog—Nautica
- Best Business-to-Business Web Site—Nikevision

Donna Rollins, vice president of Marchon creative services, says, “This year’s win was not only record breaking but also rewarding to our art directors and account executives. The consensus of the team was the Airlock Campaign, which received four out of the six ‘Best of’ awards, is clever and well produced. To have the confirmation of the advertising community was truly gratifying.” Upfront notes the BOLI Awards attracts entries from major Long Island, regional and national advertisers, as the client or the agency, but not both, must be based on Long Island. The tough competition included 1-800-Flowers, The New York Times, Fuji Film, BASF, America Online, Lion’s Gate Entertainment, Linens N Things and Nikon. —James J. Spina

Rudy Project North America is a BIG winner with its newly launched Maskeryna sunglass shield. The new style was recently awarded “Gear of the Year” by Outside Magazine in its annual Buyer’s Guide.

In selecting the Maskeryna style, Outside Magazine notes, “Rudy Project hits the sweet spot where sport worthiness becomes fashion and vice versa. This frameless wonder fends off 70-mile-an-hour winds as effectively as ski goggles, but it’ll also turn heads in Santa Barbara.”

Brad Shapiro, Rudy Project NA partner and co-founder, says, “The Maskeryna is what happens when performance meets attitude with a total disregard to conventional thinking.” The Maskeryna is made of extremely lightweight Grilamid
TR 55 LX with a proprietary adjustable-Silpad nosepiece with silicone pads that provides weightless comfort and maximum protection. —JJS
