döp design: .925 Sterling and Zyl

Courting the upscale consumer

The Toronto, Ontario-based döp design launches its .925 Sterling and Zyl ophthalmic and sun collections in the U.S. Made in Italy, the frames use the finest .925 sterling silver as temple accents to balance the frame on the wearer's face. Included are semi-rimless and full-rimmed rectangles and modified rectangles for men and women in such colors as black/crystal, crystal, light horn, olive/gray and ruby red. Advanced spring-hinge technology adds durability. The frames also feature an integrated accessory system with eyelets in the temples accommodating the döp Tag. A dual design, the döp Tag can be worn on its own as a fashion accessory or used as an eyeglass retainer. It comes in black, brown and camel leather.

Adidas: Inspired Collection Expansion

Adidas enters new territory in metal frames

Adidas Eyewear completes its fully rimmed ClimaCool Inspired collec-tion with nylor and rimless models. Featuring the revolutionary material, Performance Steel, a steel alloy, the new frames combine high elasticity hardness and resilience, allowing designs not possible with regular stainless steel. Performance Steel ensures soldering points are much stronger and flexibility is only provided in the appropriate places. The new, slimmer designed nylor and rimless temples have a clean-cut incision midway with specially engineered temple tips consisting of a two-component Traction Grip material that incorporate vents. The entire design is inspired by the acclaimed Adidas ClimaCool ventilation technology. Styles include one masculine, two feminine and three unisex designs in the rimless offerings and one feminine and three unisex shapes in the nylor. Polarized clips are available.

Performance Steel was originally used in precision equipment such as aircraft turbine engines and surgical tools. Adidas Eyewear has the global patent for use of
the material in the eyewear industry.

PHILOSOPHY: “The Adidas Inspired collections are in line with the Silhouette corporate core values. The use of our proprietary material, Performance Steel, represents our commitment to pioneering research and development and the ClimaCool Inspired design details represent Silhouette’s love of detail and superior quality,” says Adidas brand manager Patrick Cooper. “With the addition of the Rimless and Nylor collections, we now offer a complete wardrobe of lightweight, comfortable styles for the Adidas brand consumer.”
MARKETING: An image card is available and each style comes with a hard case with clip-on pouch.

Eyewear Designs: New Balance Kids

Balancing fit, performance and comfort

Eyewear Designs adds a kids’ collection to its New Balance eyewear line launched in 2004. Taking its name from the athletic footwear brand, the new collection consists of three metal styles in oval and rectangular shapes. All of the frames feature slightly bowed temples with 180-degree flex temples and comforTECH spring nosepads. Colors are brown, dark brown, blue, gray, lilac, plum, silver and taupe. Eye sizes range from 42mm to 45mm with a 17mm bridge and temple lengths of 120mm and 125mm.

Functional fit and comfort features such as the 180-degree flex hinges, rubber temple tips and spring nosepads make these frames perfect for the active child.

PHILOSOPHY:“The New Balance Kids’ design focus is similar to New Balance adult styles in that it’s all about fit, performance and comfort—especially in how these features translate to kids. Kids have special fit needs and parents have concerns about durability and strength. New Balance Kids’ eyewear addresses both those criteria by making attractive (cool) frames for kids, which parents will purchase because of the superior quality of the product and the perception of the brand itself,” says Andrea Gluck, Eyewear Designs co-president.
MARKETING: Merchandising materials include one-place, countertop mirror and name displays.
