Careful 20/20 readers will notice a subtle change in our children’s eyewear coverage this year. We’ve shifted our hugely successful KidzBiz supplement to July (you got yours with the July GenEYE 20/20 issue last month and… it was our biggest and most successful KidzBiz EVER!) and opted to deliver the 20/20 children’s eyewear feature in the August issue (THIS ONE which you are now reading!) in order to get it closer to the trending and dispensing reality of a back-to-school scenario. In any case, added kudos to Art Director Iris Johnson and Senior Editor Gloria Nicola for the continued superb teamwork delivered on eyewear near and dear to their hearts in both 20/20 and KidzBiz.

It was time to turn up the heat on kids’ eyewear last year with a trip to a rooftop setting in Williamsburg, Brooklyn but that heat went beyond the hot looks in specs. The temperature was sizzling as well, calling for massive amounts of sunscreen, gallons of drinking water and some careful decisions about… er… steamy graffiti backgrounds in order to keep things in proper perspective from a child’s POV.   —JJS
