SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--ICU Eyewear, the reading glasses and sunwear company based here, offers several collections, including two new initiatives that showcase “eco-friendly” glasses, made from recycled and reclaimed materials, as well as a new line that is made of Bamboo, a “sustainable” material.

ICU founder and president, Patricia Kesten, said that eco-friendly practices have been a focus of the company since it was founded in 1998. “Our customers appreciate our dedication to sustainability and innovation,” she noted.

The “Green” reading glass is made out of 100 percent reclaimed materials. Its ad campaign and slogan says, “Now your vision and your conscience can be clear.”

The company has also recently expanded its “Saving the Planet One Reading Glass at a Time” recycling program, which collects used reading glasses and donates them to organizations all over the world.

ICU’S green line uses reclaimed plastics, recycled metals and sustainable bamboo.
Newest in the company’s line is the “Bamboo” collection, which has been in development for two years. Kesten said, “Bamboo is truly a renewable resource, many species can grow up to two feet per day. It also has many environmental benefits including the absorption of harmful greenhouse gases and the production of oxygen.”

She also said that ICU maintains a commitment with its factories, suppliers and distributors regarding fair trade practices and fair treatment of factory workers.

The company has a full range of men’s and women’s readers, including sun readers, and recently introduced fashion sunglasses as well. Further information is available at www.icueyewear.com.
