VARESE, Italy--Gaetano Sciuto, managing director, of Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens, has resigned from the company to take a position in the fashion business. He will be succeeded as managing director by Michele D’Adamo.

With the Sola Sunlens company since 1996, Michele D’Adamo has held many important positions over the years, the company noted in its statement. She was manufacturing manager of Sola Sunlens Europe and was promoted to director of operations in 2000.

Scuito, who started in 1998 with Sola International (renamed in 2006 as Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens following the merger of the two companies), will move on to the position of licenses and accessories division director at Fendi, an LVMH group company.

Sciuto presided over significant growth at Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens, overseeing the development of new technical products with sunglass companies around the world. Two years ago, he launched the Zeiss brand into the sunlens market, developing 20 co-branding agreements with sunglass leaders in the sport and luxury markets. More recently, Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens opened a new production unit in China.
