McCallum served as a line officer in the U.S. Navy from 1984 to 1989. He received a bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy and an MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

In an announcement, Jonathan Coon, CEO of 1-800 CONTACTS, stated, “I am saddened to announce the passing of a dear friend and exceptionally gifted executive, Kevin McCallum. Kevin served 1-800 CONTACTS with distinction for eight years and was the driving force behind the company’s innovative and successful marketing and advertising initiatives. His incisive mind, people skills, and keen problem-solving ability were valued by everyone who knew and worked with him. Much of our company’s success would not have been possible without Kevin’s tireless and loyal contribution.”

According to information in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McCallum is survived by his wife, Cathy Michelle McCallum and his two daughters, Kaitlyn and Kelsey McCallum. His parents, his brothers, and many in-laws, nephews, and nieces also survive him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to the Boy Scouts of America.
