SEATTLE—Optometrists and paraoptometrics from around the country gathered here last week for Optometry’s Meeting, incorporating the 111th annual American Optometric Association (AOA) Congress and the 38th annual American Optometric Student Association conference.

During the event, the AOA honored several remarkable individuals with awards for their accomplishments in eyecare, and elected new officers for the coming year. Kicking off the meeting as keynote speaker, sponsored by Essilor, was Christopher Gardner, author of the book The Pursuit of Happyness, made into a movie starring Will Smith. Optometry’s Meeting also featured five days of continuing education classes and three days of an exhibit hall.
