SANTA ANA, Calif.—Advanced Medical Optics (NYSE: EYE) has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for the iFS Advanced Femtosecond Laser, the company announced this week.

Said AMO’s chairman and chief executive officer, Jim Mazzo, “This technology is an integral part of AMO’s proprietary iLASIK technology suite and a tangible example of our commitment to not only maintain a substantial advantage over competing systems, but also to provide technologies that advance the standard of vision care medically.”

The company said the iFS Advanced Femtosecond Laser, available now for orders, will be shipped to U.S. surgeons by the third quarter.
