LEWISVILLE, Texas--Hoya Vision Care, North America has acquired Metro Optics, a wholesale prescription laboratory in Metairie, La. The lab, founded in 2001 by Kent Berger and Ken Hawkes, reported 2004 gross sales of approximately $2.6 million, according to Hoya. The lab has 12 employees and derives sales from customers primarily in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Barney Dougher, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Hoya Vision Care, North America said "Metro Optics will further strengthen Hoya's position in the southeastern part of the United States."

The Hoya Vision Care lab network ranked second in Vision Monday's Top Labs 2004 survey, with an estimated $126.4 million in Rx sales.
