ALEXANDRIA, Va.--The Vision Council of America (VCA) has issued an analysis of state and federal children’s vision policy. The report, titled “Making the Grade?”, is available at www.2020advocacy.com.

On a federal level, the report highlights the bipartisan legislation in Congress (H.R. 2238) that, if enacted, would provide states with funds to diagnose and treat vision problems in children and educate them about healthy vision.

Making the Grade? also includes the results of a VCA study to determine which states include vision care--eye exams or vision screening--among the required medical procedures for children throughout the school years. VCA found that while some states have adopted new strategies to increase the number of children that receive an exam from an eye doctor, 19 states were found to have no laws requiring vision care for children.
