TAMPA, Fla.--A new Web site, eyehealthnetwork.com, went online June 1, offering services for both eyecare practitioners and consumers.

The site will offer optometrists and ophthalmologists the ability to sell products to patients over the Internet; in addition, an online practice-management program through an as-yet-unidentified supplier is planned, according to EyeHealth Network founder and president Chris Maida. The company is also offering ODs and MDs a customized/personal doctor Web page including a profile about their practices.

By year-end, the site will also offer ECPs an online marketplace to buy or sell used equipment, a discussion board and a job board, Maida told VM.

For consumers, the site will offer news and articles on eye diseases and other eyecare issues. Maida said plans also call for targeting eyewear/eyecare vendors to offer online ordering for ODs and MDs through the Web site.

“For the eyecare practitioner, our new Web portal and e-commerce site provides an easy way to achieve increased visibility to a wider consumer group, giving patients quick access to important eyecare products and solutions,” Maida said. “Now, doctors can offer a wide array of products directly through the Web portal, increasing revenues while eliminating the hassles of managing product inventory.”

EyeHealth Network is owned by Eye Supply USA, a mail-order/online seller of ophthalmic pharmaceuticals and surgical/medical supplies.
