It’s the suite-smell of success, as Expo West’s Suites scenario continues to grow with a winning formula that bodes well for the future of specialty high-end eyewear designers and their position of power within the whole optical arena. Now established in its exclusive groove in the by-appointment setting of two top floors at the adjacent Venetian Hotel, the atmosphere is at once casual, comfortable, exclusive and lucrative.

The relaxed atmosphere of the Suites was conducive to buying and selling.

A long-time supporter of the containing Galleria concept, Grant Italia’s Rivka Estroff has now branched into two venue approaches with locations at both the Galleria and in the suites. “We really wanted to be here because there are some important customers that really prefer the relaxed, appointment atmosphere of a quiet and comfortable hotel suite. On the other hand, some of our clients like the bustle and excitement of the show floor and the galleria gives them that option without the “buying” pressure of a specific appointment.”

Return suite supporter Larry Sands brings his own brand of bustle and excitement with his Optical Shop of Aspen multiple suite setting. At the first hour on the first day of the show, OSA’s double suite setup is filled with buying-not-browsing clients. “The one-on-one quality of the suite setting has really strengthened the eyewear buying experience by broadening the appeal to our particular area of high-end, luxury glasses. Our customers need this option of the suites in a setting that is both comfortable and close to the rest of the Expo show floor action. Right now we couldn’t be happier.”

And as the number of participants continues to grow, the suite concept seems energized and continually refreshing in a way that purposely reflects the nature and focus of the companies represented. The success story of the suites ensures this niche a natural course of healthy commerce action both now and in the future of Expo West.         --James J. Spina
