Accessories played a major supporting role in the Proenza Schouler Spring/Summer ’08 runway show held during New York Fashion Week. Belts, hats and shoes were prominent. And sunglasses, now available under a new licensing agreement with Cachet, a division of L’Amy, premiered. The new eyewear collection reflects the fashion house’s continued exploration into contrasts. “The Proenza Schouler design philosophy takes its cue from the idea of contrasts—a reconciliation of extremes. The eyewear features an irreverent mix of materials—custom brushed metals with lacquered tortoise-color resins coexist in one style while exposed hinges pair with resin in another for a look that is singular,” say Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. “The utilitarian feel of the shapes brings to mind eyewear of an earlier period, but the absolute focus on detail and material make it a product of today.”
