PITTSBURGH—PPG Industries has
donated 8,000 lenses made from Trivex material to the National
Federation of Opticianry Schools (NFOS) organization. The lenses
will be used by students who are learning to block and edge lenses
made from Trivex material. PPG also provided the NFOS with copies
of the recently published, comprehensive “Trivex Lens
Material User’s Guide” and the first and second volumes
of “The Trivex Material Edge” CDs.
“We appreciate the work that’s being done by the NFOS
to advance opticianry education, and wanted to get involved by
providing additional resources for learning,” said Christine
Camsuzou, general manager, optical materials, PPG. “We know
that having a repository of practice lenses for students is vital;
and as the supplier of a new and growing category of lens material,
we feel a sense of duty to provide them.
“We hope that our contribution will enrich the hands-on
experience of upcoming generations of eyecare professionals as they
learn to effectively prescribe, recommend and process lenses made
from Trivex material.”
Beyond the initial contribution, PPG will continue to play a part
in education by supporting industry expert Edward August as he
tours various NFOS schools to talk about Trivex material and other
topics of relevance to future opticians.
