NEW YORK—Vision Monday and 20/20 Magazine are pleased to announce the selections in the second annual EyeVote Readers’ Choice Awards, a special survey aimed at identifying readers’ favorite products and companies of the year.

Optical retailers and ECP readers of the two Jobson Medical Information publications were asked to identify their “favorite” products in six distinct categories: optical frames, spectacle lenses, sunglasses, contact lenses, optical equipment and diagnostic instruments. Selected companies were chosen based on both brand and company choices supplied by readers. This year’s survey also spanned a wider range of product brands and product groups as compared to last year’s survey.

There was a significant 31 percent increase in voter participation in the survey this year compared to 2009, with a total of 731 voters taking part in the 2010 EyeVote survey.

In the end, EyeVote was all about you, our readers and your favorite products and companies. The 2010 EyeVote Readers’ Choice selections were as follows:

EyeVote was conducted from Oct. 1, 2010 to Nov. 2, 2010. Respondents were contacted by email invitation to take the survey and links were posted on 2020mag.com and VisionMonday.com. An incentive of a chance to win a trip (air fare and lodging) to New York City for Vision Expo East 2011 or a $500 American Express Gift Card was offered to encourage respondents to answer the survey. In tallying the votes, only one response per respondent per category was counted. Votes from manufacturers were considered ineligible and removed from the final counts.

The winner of the incentive was Jan Robley, a dispensing optician with Drs. Jackson & Schaffer Eyecare, Omaha, Neb. When asked what prompted her to participate in the EyeVote survey, Robley, a regular visitor to VisionMonday.com, said “It’s all about the timing. I had heard about the survey from some optician friends of mine and I decided to go online and check it out for myself.”

Drs. Jackson & Schaffer Eyecare has two locations, in the downtown area of Omaha, specializing in family eyecare offering complete vision care services for both children and adults, according to Robley. In addition to a dispensary, featuring ophthalmic eyewear and sunwear, the practice also has an optical lab with capability to tint, coat, surface and edge spectacle lenses.

At presstime, Robley was leaning toward opting for the $500 Amex gift certificate since her plans for attending Vision Expo East this Spring were still up in the air.
